The GATAN model Duo mill 600 DIF (CYRO Capable) is used for the last step in the preparation of samples for transmission electron microscopy. The sample is thinned from both sides by means of a beam of ionized argon gas. The accelerating voltage, ion current and angle of incidence can be selected in function of the properties of the sample material. The work station, each equipped with two ion guns are available. The pre-thinned samples are bombarded till perforation occurs or till the sample becomes transparant to a lazer beam.
Comments:
Vacuum: Turbo and mechanical pump
vacuum in main chamber, before ion guns are switched on, is better than 1.10-6 mbar
